Bromeliads are classified as pre-carnivorous plants because they rely on the help of microorganisms for the utilization of their prey. Only a few species, such as Brocchinia reducta and Catopsis spec., are true carnivores! Neoregelia ampullacea "rubra" is characterized by a variety of reddish stripes on its leaves. The genus Neoregelia is excellent for keeping in a terrarium. The requirements for the substrate are relatively low. Normal carnivorous plant substrate works just as well as special mixtures for succulents or the mounted (epiphytic) cultivation, such as on bark or in pure peat. You will receive an unpotted plant for mounting or planting.
